***Preliminary 2016 Hokie Half Marathon Results***
Thank you for attending the 4th annual Hokie Half Marathon and 5k presented by Carilion Clinic! What a beautiful day! We had a record number of participants in both the 5k and half marathon. We heard of many first timers completing their first half marathon or 5k and many runners achieving a personal best despite the “nice” hill at mile 12. It was great hearing your inspiring stories and to see so many people from all over our great nation. From Alaska, California, Texas, Florida to Maine we enjoyed having runners from 31 states. We thank you all for coming and hope you enjoyed it.
Preliminary results can be found here. If there is a mistake in the results, please email the timing company your name, bib number, wave if in the half marathon, and what the issue appears to be. The timing company’s contact is Runroanoke@gmail.com, and please also cc firstname.lastname@example.org.
Overall and age group awards will be sent out after results verified. Pictures will be posted to Facebook and emailed to participants as they are received from our photographer. The pictures are free to download!
We greatly apologize to those that finished the Hokie Half Marathon and did not receive a finisher’s medal. We had to order medals eight weeks ago and did our best to estimate our final participant numbers. We ordered more than ever before and never have run out in prior years. Medals for those that did not receive one will be ordered Monday and mailed out immediately once received. We will keep you updated through our Hokie Half and 5k Facebook page on their expected arrival date and mailing. For those desiring a different size finishing shirt, we will have those ordered Monday as well.
A big thank you goes out to all of our volunteers working registration and water stations, marshaling the course, manning the start/finish area, and working on our setup and cleaning crews. Without you, this event does not happen! We would also like to thank our police and EMS personnel for making sure we were all safe, our nurse stations for taking care of us, and our wonderful volunteers from the VT Corp of Cadets for their enthusiasm and efforts. You all rock! To the staff at RunAbout Sports, an enormous thank you for your hard work, dedication, and sleepless nights preparing to make today happen; on behalf of all of us, go get some rest, you all deserve it!
In final, we are grateful for our wonderful sponsors who believe in this event and for supporting health and fitness. Your financial support makes it all happen. Thank you, thank you, thank you Carilion Clinic, Dowell Chiropractic, Blacksburg Striders, RRCA, the Running Club at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg Physical Therapy Associates, Pearisburg Eye Associates, Skip Slocum of Nest Realty, Spectrum Brands, and Maready Law!
